Events such as this show the weak relationship between employer and employee. Whether white and black, white and white, or black and black there was room for conflict. A brutal murder such as this put fear into the eyes of those who kept slaves, farm hands and indentured servants.
Gabrielle Prosser, Denmark Vesey, and most famous of all Nat Turner kept the fear of rebellion alive through their revolts and conspiracies to create large scale uprisings.
